Trinidad Scorpion Origins
The Trinidad Scorpion pepper is universally renowned for consistently being in the top 3 of the most dangerous peppers. True pepper heads scientifically and genetically craft these unique peppers (like most super-hots). They want their claim to fame…creating the world’s hottest pepper.
What’s always intrigued me about them was that NASTY-looking tail; you just know you’re in trouble. Use sparingly!
Not so fun fact:
How much Trinidad Moruga Scorpion pepper would you have to eat actually to die?
Based on a 1980 study that calculated the lethal dosage of capsaicin, estimates are that 2.7 pounds (1.2 kilograms) of the peppers would cause enough stomach and intestinal tissue inflammation to kill a 150-pound (68-kg) person.
Well, have fun trying I guess!
However, the Carolina Reaper remains champ!
The previous world champion, Carolina Reaper, has been beat by itself! The Carolina Reaper is once again officially the World’s Hottest Pepper.
Initially ranked as the world’s hottest in 2013, the Reaper was tested again in 2018 with an even higher SHU. (71,000 SHU higher, to be exact) This record gives the Reaper a renewed title as World’s Hottest!
It was bred for heat, and that it is, with an average SHU of 1,641,000 SHU and peaks at 2.2 Million SHU!
